hi, finally a chance to blog for a little while.
well, in the last few weeks i been to two toy shows...(yeh yeh, grown man in his thirties still looking at toys)...i'll grow up one day and spend all my money on cars, beer and women..
anyway...one had a great collection of figures by brothersworker....to most people they just look like expensive action man, but theyre not...(honest)...they cost a fair bit but are incredibly detailed and some are really rare, theyre all hand made in hongkong and have a great style to them.
lots of people were dressed up as gundam robots and anime characters, some were parading with their huge swords and lots of people taking pictures of them.there were big furry monsters walking around (like pokemon style things), and loads of online gaming and anime things to buy...
a few days later there was the Qee expo ...i went to the one in the uk which was cool and this one was a little smaller, but good otherwise.I got a chance to get some figures signed by the artists who design some of the Qee (theyre keyrings but the artwork on them is done by designers and proper artists)..There is a basic figure and theyve got hundreds of designers and artists to create their version of it, sort of like an art canvas..some look great, some not, but generally theyre all really nice.I bought some tshirts and toys and stuff,..i'm sure in 5 months when i go back home that i'll need 3 suitcases to get my toys in..
i also bought some nice michael lau figures, he;s one of the main urban vinyl artists who has found success world wide, he has his own gallery and i bought his latest set of figures which look really nice...based on packaging and cardboard boxes...he's got a new set of figures out in a few weeks so i'll probably be down there again.
otherwise, its hot ;) and i think ive lost about a stone since ive been here, though it might come back if i keep eating mcdonalds and visiting a really nice food court , its like one i used to go to in london which has chineese, thai, indian, malaysian, japanese food etc etc...everything tastes nice (well, the things i'm willing to eat)..and its about £3 for a meal and drink...cheap and tastey....nearby is the ferry terminal, if you come to hk be prepared for lots of indian/pakistani people asking if you want to buy a suit.....its as bad as the americans in japan asking if you wanna buy "hip hop" clothing or visit their store...but i thing theyre starting to recognise me now cos they dont ask as often...
some of the icecream here is different, sesame flavoured, green bean, red bean, green tea, and the ussual things from everywhere else..i dont like green bean though...i had sweet potato in japan and that was nice...i should try all the flavours (i had japanese curry flavour crisps too...which tasted authentic...or just like chip shop curry sauce in uk).
i bought lots more anime and movies too, some movies cost about £1 for a vcd, and theyre quite recent hongkong movies..so i'm gonna buy lots of watch lots too...ive started watching onepiece which seems really nice, but theres about 10 dvd's of that , and a few movies, so its gonna take a while.
i still havent used the pool yet, and ive been here 2 months now...i havent used the gym either...its suprising how much energy the heat drains, i just get home, switch on the aircon and drink water...ive been to the beach once, hopefully next week i'll relax a bit , so far it seems ive been running around a lot, but havent dont much touristy thing.....there are a few club nights on soon which sound interesting (breakbeat seems popular here at the moment)...and there are some new hongkong films out (though one has jackie chan in it and the reviews are poor);...called "the twins effect"..its one of those whacky kungfu comedy things..films seems quite up to date here though, aliens versus predator is out soon, though it'll be on the warez walls before the cinema....cinema is quite cheap here too though..
so, hopefully by next blog i will have a bit of a tan, the share price of the company i used to work for will be higher (it bombed the other day cos they forcast another couple of million down the drain),more food in the fridge and i might even learn how to count to 10 in cantonese (though to be honest i dont need to)..
byeeee
